Second seed Tommy Paul begins his Dallas Open campaign against unseeded Taro Daniel. This is a second round match and the winner could face sixth seed Dominik Koepfer in the last eight. Tommy Paul is ranked 15th and second seed in this hard court tournament behind Frances Tiafoe. He's up to 14th in the live rankings and that puts him a place above Tiafoe. Paul is only 47th in the Live ATP Race but has reached one quarter final this year. That was in the Adelaide International where he was beaten by Jack Draper. The American got revenge for that loss in the second round of the Australian Open but then lost to Miomir Kecmanovic in the last 32. He received a bye into the second round of this tournament. 

Taro Daniel has had a good start to the new year and is 26th in the Live ATP Race with 63 more ranking points this year than his opponent. Daniel is 62nd in the latest rankings, that's only four places below the career high he achieved last month. The highlight of his year to date was making it to the final in Auckland. A few days after that he lost in the first round of the Australian Open to Christopher Eubanks. The first round of this tournament saw him beat Constant Lestienne in three sets. He lost the first set, won the second and was 5-0 up in the third when his opponent retired.He's only won one of his three previous matches against Paul and they are 1-1 in hard court matches. This is a potentially tricky match for Paul but we believe he can get the win.
