Tampa Bay Lightning vs Vegas Golden Knights Prediction & Betting Tips - NHL
by Matthew Newman in NHL Predictions
The 21-7-5 Vegas Golden Knights play game two of a four-game road trip at the 15-13-5 Tampa Bay Lightning in the early hours of Friday morning. These teams have appeared in five of the last six Stanley Cup Finals between them, although they have never matched up in the playoff finale. The Lightning have won two and the Knights are the defending champions so this should be a quality matchup. The visitors never managed to get into a rhythm at the Carolina Hurricanes last time, giving up three powerplay tallies and three goals in a touch over eight minutes in the middle period. They have been missing their goalie Adin Hill who was such a key part of their postseason success. He tried to come back for a recent game against Ottawa but managed just seven minutes before leaving the ice. Logan Thompson has done his best to cover but a gap the size of the leader in goals against average is a difficult one to fill. The goals continue offensively, 2nd in the league but too many are being conceded over the last five games, powerplays 6/14 against them in that time.
Without their number one netminder, Andre Vasilevskiy, things were tough for the Lighting in the opening few weeks of the season. He is still working his way back up to full speed and has been a long way short of his very best but there were signs in the 6-1 win over the St Louis Blues that he might be about to go on a run where he becomes his unstoppable best. The Lightning were 2-3 on a recent road trip, ending the eight-game unbeaten run of the Edmonton Oilers and winning in Seattle but suffered heavy defeats to the Nashville Predators, Vancouver Canucks and the Calgary Flames. That inconsistency is holding them back but if Vasilevskiy can find his stride, that will make things easier for them. They are 4th in goals for but 30th in goals against so there is plenty for neutrals to enjoy when they play and they have been a stronger team at home as they showed last time.
