The 26-18-5 Tampa Bay Lightning welcome the 24-19-3 New Jersey Devils to Amalie Arena in the early hours of Sunday morning. The Lightning have been sparkling at home of late, winning six straight on their own ice and seven of their last eight overall. One of those wins was a 4-3 overtime success over the Devils a little over a fortnight ago. The Devils took an early lead and then had to fight back from 3-1 down to force the overtime period. D-man Darren Raddysh scored the overtime winner, getting on the scoresheet again in their most recent game against the Arizona Coyotes. He didn't have a goal in the first 39 games of the season but has now scored four in their last nine games. With 29 goals in the six-game home win streak, the Lightning have found some consistency with Nikita Kucherov leading the way with 83 points on the season.
With six losses in their last nine games, the Devils are having a difficult time of things. They have conceded three or more in seven of those nine so they head to Tampa at a bad time with the Lightning firing on all cylinders at present. 2024 has started poorly, losing their top player Jack Hughes to an injury, swiftly followed by a pair of defencemen, Jonas Siegenthaler and Brendan Smith. They are both solid performers on the blue line with close to a thousand games between them in the NHL so that plus the points from Hughes are serious blows to them. They have been trading wins and losses of late, beating the Vegas Golden Knights 6-5 before losing 2-3 at the Carolina Hurricanes. They have the class at their best to trouble the Lightning but it is hard to know if they are going to be close to their best.
