Tamara Zidansek has been steadily rising up the rankings in recent months. The Slovenian is the number one seed in the Lausanne Open and takes on unseeded Clara Burel in the final. Zidansek reached the semi-finals at the French Open and her love of clay has been evident again this week in Lausanne. Zidansek is up to 43rd in the live rankings, a rise of seven places from the start of the week. Winning this title will take her up to 36th, which would be 61 places higher than in March of this year. This is her second final of the year after losing in Bogota. Wins this week have come against Melina Melnikova (after losing the first set), Mandy Minella, Lucia Bronzetti (another three setter) and Maryna Zanevska.

Clara Burel is only 20-years-old and started this week ranked 124th in the world, at the start of the year she was 236th. When the next list is published she'll be 99th. Burel has had success on the ITF circuit, reaching the final in Poiiters and then the last eight in a WTA tournament held in Lyon. Another ITF final was reached in Portugal but she withdrew from that match. May finally saw her win an ITF title but beat a player ranked outside the top 600 in the final. Burel has caused two shocks on the way to this final with wins over Fiona Ferro (seeded second) and fifth seeded Caroline Garcia in the semi-final.
