The final of the 2023 Transylvania Open will be played on Sunday with unseeded Tamara Korpatsch and the wildcard Elena Gabriela Ruse contesting. This is the first final of the season for the two players. Tamara Korpatsch is not only playing her first final of the year but this is also her first at tour level. The German defeated compatriot Eva Lys in straight sets in the semifinals. It was her first 2-0 win of the tournament. It allowed her to move up a massive 23 places to 82nd in the live ranking. Korpatsch, who is making her Cluj debut, has had a difficult 2023 campaign and has lost more than she has won. She has compiled a 26-30 record and has her indoor hard court record split down the middle after eight matches.

Elena Gabriela Ruse has won both meetings with Korpatsch. Though the last was back in 2020, she will be confident of tripling her advantage in this series. The Romanian, who has had the absolute backing of the home crowd, has fared much better than Korpatsch this season. She has won 30 of the 49 matches she has played and has dominated on indoor hard courts with four wins in five. The former world number 51, is now up a whopping 61 places to 127th in the live ranking.
