The quarter-finals of the Astana Open in Kazakhstan sees top-seeded Tallon Griekspoor taking on fifth-seed Sebastian Korda on centre court. Awaiting the winner of this matchup will be either fourth-seeded Jiri Lehecka or Wild Card draw winner Hamad Medjedovic. Since his runner-up finish at the Citi Open nearly two months ago, Griekspoor has cooled off somewhat. The 27-year-old has now won only four of his last nine. During that stretch, the Dutchman has been eliminated in the first round in three of the last six events he has participated in. However, he’ll be hoping to put an end to that here with a deep run and is off to a solid start. The ATP 24th-ranked player overcame Sho Shimabukuro in the second round thanks to a 6-1 third set to ultimately win the match two sets to win. On the year, Griekspoor has won 32 of his 51 contests which includes seven wins from nine on indoor hard courts.

Sebastian Korda comes into this matchup off the back of two semi-final appearances in his last three tournaments played. The American will be hoping that he can make the breakthrough in Kazakhstan and get his first tournament win of the year. Korda came close in the beginning of the season, finishing as the runner-up to Novak Djokovic at the Adelaide International 1 event back in January. The 23-year-old is up to 28th in the ATP rankings, although it’s slightly behind his all-time high of 25th which he achieved in July of this year. Korda defeated 45th-ranked Popyrin in the first round 2-1 before a straight sets victory over 86th-ranked Nuno Borges in the previous round. The young American looks to be picking up steam which should serve him well in this encounter.
