Tallon Griekspoor faces Lorenzo Musetti with the winner up against either fourth seed Hubert Hurkacz or unseeded Jiri Lehecka in round two. Griekspoor is playing in front of his home fans and is 29th in the live rankings. That's eight places below his career high achieved last November. He'll be hoping for a good run with lots of ranking points up for grabs in this ATP 500 indoor hard court tournament. His year began with him representing the Netherlands in the United Cup but he lost both his singles matches. He found his form in the Australian Open reaching the last 32 where he lost to Arthur Cazaux. Griekspoor was back playing for his country next, this time in the Davis Cup against Switzerland and won both of his matches. With four wins in his last five matches he'll be hoping to continue that form in Rotterdam.

Lorenzo Musetti is three places above his opponent in the live rankings. His best performance this year has been getting to the last 16 of the Adelaide International. He only had to win one match to get to that stage but it was a good one over Jordan Thompson who has had some good results since that loss. In the Australian Open, Musetti won two of the first three sets against Luis Van Assche in the second round. He then won just three games in the next two sets. There's only been one previous match between these two players and that was won by Griekspoor in straight sets. That was on a hard court but four years ago. Griekspoor can be backed to get a win here.
