No seeded players stand between second seed Alexander Zverev and the Shanghai Masters quarter-finals. The German takes on unseeded Tallon Griekspoor in round three of this hard court tournament. Read our match prediction below.

The winner of this match will face either David Goffin or Marcos Giron (both of whom are unseeded) in the last 16. Alexander Zverev is in third place in both the overall and Live Race ranking lists. He's already guaranteed himself a place in the end-of-season ATP Tour FInals.

In 2019, he reached the final of this hard court Masters tournament. He's seeded to repeat that feat again this year, though Novak Djokovic is in the same half of the draw as him. He is bidding to make it six successive quarter-finals in singles tournaments.

This is his first event since losing in the last eight of the US Open. His only match so far in Shanghai saw him beat qualifier Mattia Bellucci in straight sets, losing only six games. He leads Griekspoor 4-1 in previous meetings and 2-1 on hard courts. 

Griekspoor has lost both of his matches against Zverev that have been played this year. The Dutchman is up to 38th in the live rankings after his two wins in this tournament. Victories have come against Facundo Diaz Acosta (in three sets) and 26th seed Jordan Thompson.

The 28-year-old had lost two of his last three matches played before this tournament got underway. We tip Zverev to win this in straight sets.
