Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina is the 25th seed at Roland Garros. He takes on the unseeded Tallon Griekspoor in round one with the winner up against either Brandon Nakashima or Kamil Majchrzak. Davidovich-Fokina is the world number 28, just one behind his career high ranking. The Spaniard celebrates his birthday on the day the men's singles final is being played but it'd be a massive surprise if he was on the Roland Garros court that day.. Then again, what if he repeated the form he showed in Monte Carlo this year? He beat Novak Djokovic, David Goffin and Taylor Fritz on his way to a loss in the final to Stefanos Tsitsipas. Those heights haven't been reached in subsequent clay court tournaments, though he did get to the last eight in Estoril and took Felix Auger-Aliassime to three sets in Rome. He's a player to look out for at Roland Garros and reached the last eight here in 2021 beating Casper Ruud. He eventually lost to Alexander Zverev and could face the German again in the third round this year.

Tallon Griekspoor is ranked 64th in the world. He's glad to be in the first round of the French Open as the Dutchman has been beaten in the qualifying rounds in his four previous visits. He's got to the second round in the last two Grand Slams he's played but this looks a tough task. Griekspoor was a prolific winner on the Challenger Tour last year with eight titles won, six of them on clay. He won five in October and November alone but hasn't enjoyed such success on the ATP Tour. Griekspoor has only won five of his 14 matches on the tour this year. It hasn't gone well on clay either with a last 32 defeat in Marrakech to Pavel Kotov who was ranked 172nd at the time. Tournaments in Monte Carlo and Rome saw him lose in the last 64.
