Serbia are one of the favorites to win the 2023 European Men's Volleyball Championships. They begin their Pool A campaign with a match against Switzerland with Italy, Estonia, Germany and Belgium to play with the top four going into the next round. The Serbs are the second favorites in Pool A behind Italy while their opponents are the total outsiders. Serbia are ranked ninth in the world and that's 27 places higher than their opponents. They have an excellent record in these championships and have been crowned European champions on three previous occasions, most recently 2019. Two years ago they were beaten in the semi-finals and have got to at least the last eight in the last six European Championships. Recent form has seen Serbia win their last two matches, both played against the Czech Republic.

Switzerland have won and lost against Greece in their last two matches. Three of their last five matches have ended in defeat and another loss looks to be on the way here in this Pool A opener. They are the clear outsiders and their only chance of a win looks likely to be when they face Estonia. To qualify for these European Championships they qualified behind Romania but ahead of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania who are both ranked outside the top 50. This is a lot tougher and we go for Serbia to win this match without dropping a set.
