The 50th match of the 2024 Indian Premier League will see the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals face off on Thursday afternoon. The hosts are in fourth place in the standings, while the visitors lead the league. The Sunrisers come into this match in need of a victory to keep themselves in the playoff places. They are currently one of four teams tied on ten points after nine games and are only ahead of fifth-placed Lucknow Super Giants on net run rate. The Sunrisers suffered a second defeat on the bounce this weekend, beaten by 78 runs by the Chennai Super Kings. CSK posted a target of 212/3, but SRH were only able to respond with 134 runs all out in 18.5 overs. South African duo Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen scored 36 and 20, respectively, in the defeat. Thangarasu Natarajan took 1/43 and is now in fifth place in the race for the purple cap with 13 wickets to date.  SRH were beaten by this opponent in their last meeting and are the underdogs in this one. 

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Royals have been the pick of the teams this season and are now just a couple of wins away from securing their place in the playoffs. They are currently on 16 points after nine games and have only lost one match in the competition this year. The Royals head into this match off the back of their fourth straight victory, beating the Lucknow Super Giants by seven wickets and an over to spare as they successfully chased down 196 over the weekend. Sanju Samson played a blinder, smashing 71*(33), while Dhruv Jurel supported him well with 52*(34). Sandeep Sharma was the leading wicket-taker with 2/31. Samson has now moved up to sixth place in the orange cap standings, and Yuzvendra Chahal is sixth in the race for the purple cap. While the all-time head-to-head between these sides is tied at nine wins apiece, the Royals are undoubtedly in better form this season and are worthy favourites heading into this match.
