Reeling from opening defeats, Stormers will host Stade Rochelais in their maiden Saturday Champions Cup meeting. A losing bonus point last time out for Stade Rochelais left them fourth in Group 4 while Stormers are a place below. Stormers posted a Champions Cup false start going down 35-26 to English Premiership’s Leicester Tigers. The South African side is coming from a torrid November, having lost all four United Rugby Championship games. Stormers however kicked off their December with a 31-7 win over Zebre but came unstuck against Tigers. The Zebre win saw them climb to 10th in the URC log with 18 points from seven games.
Stade Rochelais haven't looked really confident lately. The reigning back-to-back Champions Cup winners got their title defense off to the worst start losing 9-16 to Leinster. In the French Top 14 however, Stade Rochelais returned to winning ways with a 35-6 win over USA Perpignan. This will be the first-ever meeting between Stade Rochelais and a South African side in their history. The French charges look bound to struggle in their long journey down south having lost their five away games.
