The second singles match of the hard court 2024 Laver Cup sees Stefanos Tsitsipas take on Thanasi Kokkinakis. Tsitsipas will hope to be able to give Team Europe a vital point against Team World. Here's our match prediction.
This match follows the opening singles between Casper Ruud and Francisco Cerundolo. Europe have lost the last two stagings of this annual competition and last year only won one match, losing 13 points to two.
Tsitsipas didn't play last year and is making his fourth appearance in this international challenge match. He's won three of the four matches he's played, his only loss coming against Frances Tiafoe in 2022.
The Greek is at 12th in the latest rankings and is playing his first event since the US Open. He'll be out for revenge as Kokkinakis beat him in four sets in round one of that Grand Slam tournament.
That made it 1-1 in previous meetings with the Australian. Tstitsipas won his match in the 2021 Australian Open. The two matches have seen three tie-breaks and one 7-5 set. On hard courts, he has reached one semi-final and had another last eight appearance in 2024.
Thanasi Kokkinakis is the world number 78 and is making his debut in the Laver Cup. The Australian won both of his matches in the Davis Cup last week with higher-ranked players beaten and three tie-breaks played.
Kokkinakis has only reached one ATP Tour quarter-final this year. This could be a close match and go for over 20.5 games to be played.
