Top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas and sixth seed Matteo Berrettini are set to meet in the semi-finals of the Swiss Open. The Saturday match will be their fifth career meeting. This is bound to be an enticing matchup and here we have a prediction for it.

World number 12 Tsitsipas is having quite the debut campaign in Gstaad and is a heartbeat away from being crowned champion. If that ends up being the case, it will be his second tour title of 2024. The Greek number one is having a superb season, so far compiling a 32-12 record and has played in two finals, all on clay.

The 25-year-old defeated Fabio Fognini, a former champion here, in straight sets in the last round. Tsitsipas has never lost against Berrettini in their four meetings. Their last showdown was in the semi-finals of the United Cup last year.

That Gstaad is one of Berrettini’s favorite tournaments isn’t in question. The Italian has never failed to reach the final here in his two appearances. A champion in 2018 and then runner-up in 2022, Berrettini has won all his three matches here in 2024 in straight sets.

One of those was against Pedro Cachin, the defending champion. He also defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime in an intense quarter-final showdown that saw both sets require tiebreakers. That was his eighth win in nine clay outings, improving his record to 18-6.

He is now 60th in the live ranking. Berrettini, who won the title in Marrakech in April, has won all three semis he has contested this year. The winner here will play Jan-Lennard Struff or Quentin Halys in the championship match.
