Lorenzo Musetti and Stefanos Tsitsipas are set to meet for the seventh time in their careers. The two top-20 players clash in the third round at the Madrid Masters, with Alex De Minaur or Denis Shapovalov awaiting the winner. Read on for our prediction of the match.

Tsitsipas was a top-5 player just three years ago but is hurtling toward position 20, a clear depiction of his drop in form. This year has been particularly tough for the Greek No. 1.

To advance here, Tsitsipas needed two hours to see off a struggling Jan-Lennard Struff in three sets. That took his season’s tally to 16-8, and he’ll be desperate to get back to his best here. 

Musetti will be on hand to extend Tsitsipas’ misery. The Italian has been on the rise and just missed the Monte Carlo title earlier this month.

He is making a fifth appearance at the Madrid Open and, for the first time, looks likely to progress past the third round. His straight-sets win against Tomas Martin Etcheverry took his Madrid tally to 6-4 and his season’s to 13-5.

Of those 13 wins, seven were on clay. On his way to the Monte Carlo final, the Italian claimed a first win against Tsitsipas. He will target further slashing the Greek’s dominance, which stands at 5-1.
