Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Jannik Sinner Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Australian Open
by Steve Ashfield | in Tennis Predictions
Stefanos Tsitsipas is the highest remaining seed in the Australian Open. He's seeded third and takes on Jannik Sinner (seeded 15th) for a place in the quarter finals of this tournament. The winner of this match faces either Jiri Lehecka or the tenth seed, Felix Auger-Aliassime in the last eight. Tsitsipas probably won't be satisified unless he reaches the last four of this Grand Slam. He's managed to do that in Melbourne in three of the last four years but is yet to reach an Australian Open final. The Greek is currently ranked third in the world but if winning his first ever Grand Slam title, he'll top the ranking. This year began for him in the United Cup team tournament. He won all four of his singles matches with three of his wins coming against top 30 ranked players. Three mixed doubles matches pairing up with Maria Sakkari were also won, so he had plenty of success before the start of this tournament. This week has seen his winning streak continue with wins over Quentin Halys, Rinky Hijkata and Tallon Griekspoor without dropping a set. Tsitsipas has beaten Sinner in four of their five previous meetings. Sinner's win came on clay and Tsitsipas beat him in straight sets in last year's Australian Open quarter final.
This will be the toughest task that Tsitsipas has faced in this Australian Open. Jannik Sinner is the 15th seed but had an almighty battle in the third round. The first two rounds had seen him beat Kyle Edmund and Tomas Martin Etcheverry, both in straight sets. It was a much different story as he faced Marton Fucsovics and he found himself two sets to love down. The Italian made a great recovery to win the final three sets for the loss of just three games, including a 6-0 final set. Sinner is ranked 16th in the live rankings which was also his ranking at the start of this Australian Open. A win over the third seed can take him up to 14th. Sinner is bidding to reach the Australian Open quarter finals for the second successive year. It'd also be his fourth Grand Slam quarter final in five events, though hes yet to get to a semi-final. His only warm-up tournament was the first Adelaide International tournament where he lost to Sebastian Korda in the third round and he could face the American in the semi-finals here. Will he get that far though? Tsitsipas is in great form and he's our choice to win this last 16 match.
