In the absence of Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev is on the verge of a second successive Grand Slam. He faces Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Australian Open semi-final, with the winner facing either Rafa Nadal or Matteo Berrettini. Medvedev began last year losing to Djokovic in the Australian Open. He ended it by winning his first Grand Slam with a win over the Serb in the US Open final. A win in this tournament will see him become the new world number one next month. He's only lost one match this year and is bidding to make it nine wins in a row. That winning streak nearly came to an end though when he was two sets to love down against Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarter finals. He won the next three sets and now takes on an opponent he's beaten in six of their previous meetings.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is the fourth seed and has also had a few problems on his way to his third Australian Open semi-final. Two of his matches in this tournament went to four sets before a five-setter against Taylor Fritz. He had to win the last two sets to get himself out of trouble in that match. He was in better form in his quarter final though, beating Jannik Sinner in straight sets. He's never made the final here but did in France last year, losing to Novak Djokovic. A third semi-final loss in Australia looks likely, back Mededev to get the victory.
