2022 finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas faces Borna Coric in the last eight of the Rome Masters. The fifth seed will be confident of getting the better of his opponent who is seeded 15th. Tsitispas began this tournament ranked fifth in the world but could climb to fourth if getting further in this Rome Masters than Casper Ruud. This is his fourth clay court tournament of the year and he's reached the last eight in all of them. His best performance has been making it to the final in Barcelona, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets. The former French Open finalist has reached these quarter finals without dropping a set in his three matches. The last round saw him beat 18th seeded Lorenzo Musetti. That took his clay court record for this year to 12 wins in 15 matches.

Borna Coric actually leads Tsitsipas 3-2 in previous meetings. Only one of those matches has been on clay and it was their first meeting here in Rome five years ago. It didn't last long with Coric retiring after going 4-1 down in the first set. He'll hope for better this time around and is likely to be more competitive. Coric beat Tsitsipas last year on his way to winning the Cincinnati Masters. 2023 had only seen one quarter final reached on hard courts. His clay court season got off to a slow start losing his first match in both Monte Carlo and Banja Luka to players ranked lower than him. He finally found some form in Madrid when reaching the last four. His good run has continued in Rome with this run to the quarter finals. It nearly didn't get off to a good start though as he had to come from behind to get past Thiego Monteiro in round two. He had to do the same in the last round against qualifier Fabian Marozsan. He can't afford to start slowly against Tsitsipas and we tip the Greek to get the win.
