A place in the HPP Open final beckons for lucky loser Stefano Travaglia and alternate Sumit Nagal. The two meet on Saturday in the semifinals with the winner next playing either Arthur Rinderknech or Corentin Moutet. Travaglia has won all four previous meetings with Nagal. This will however be the first time that they will square off on another surface other than clay. Travaglia defeated Radu Albot in three sets in the quarterfinals. It was the first time he had dropped a set in the main draw. Travaglia lost in the final round of qualifying. His rise to this round has catapulted him a massive 25 places to 186th in the live ranking. The Italian has compiled a 43-35 record and has won two of the three semifinals he has contested.

Sumit Nagal has advanced to three challenger finals so far this season. He has won two of those though none has been on an indoor hard court. Sumit is not a strong performer on indoor hard courts. He has won seven times on the surface in his career with four of those victories coming this season. As India’s world number one, Nagal is currently ranked 147th in the live ranking after a 22-place leap. This is after he advanced to the last four at the expense of former Helsinki champion Emil Ruusuvuori. The 26-year-old won the first set before Ruusuvuori was forced to retire with injury in the second set.
