Stan Wawrinka vs Tallon Griekspoor Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Monte Carlo Masters
by Devesh Jaganath | in Tennis Predictions
Stan Wawrinka take on Tallon Griekspoor in the first round of the Monte Carlo Masters. This is the biggest tournament to date of the European clay court season. Ranked 88th in the world, Wawrinka has fallen some way from his peak rank in the top 10 just a few years ago. The Swiss hasn’t made a great start to the 2023 season, managing a record of just 9-6 to date, with his best finish of the year so far coming in Rotterdam, where he made it to the quarter-final before bowing out to Jannik Sinner in straight sets. Wawrinka was drawn against Sinner yet again in the round of 16 at the Indian Wells Masters tournament last month but was again unable to overcome the Italian following wins over Aleksander Vukic (6-4 1-6 6-1), Miomir Kecmanovic (7-6 6-4), and Holger Rune (6-2 6-7 7-5) in the preceding rounds. Wawrinka, now 38 years of age, will make his first appearance on the clay courts for the year and will hope that the change of surface will also mean a change in his fortunes this year. His one previous match against Griekspoor was lost in three sets. That was five years ago and on an indoor hard court.
Tallon Griekspoor’s year got off to the best possible start with a win in his first tournament of the year in Pune back in January. Since then, the Dutchman has shown his consistency and has not been knocked out in the opening round of any tournament he’s played in this year. Like his opponent, Griekspoor also reached the quarter-finals in Rotterdam and went a step further to the semis but was also beaten by Jannik Sinner in straight sets. Griekspoor has had a little more time on the clay than his opponent, having participated in the tournament in Marrakech last week, where he overcame Elias Ymer after winning just one game in the first set but then losing a three-setter to Roberto Carballes Baena.. With a record of 14-6, Griekspoor will be confident that he should come away with the win in this one.

Our Stan Wawrinka vs Tallon Griekspoor Prediction
The veteran, Wawrinka, is a wily campaigner and has the experience to know how to get the job done in big matches. However, his form and record have deteriorated in recent years, while his opponent has continued to move up the ranks to reach his career high earlier this month. The Dutchman will also benefit from having already played on the clay in Marrakech last week, which could be a telling factor in this one. Our Stan Wawrinka v Tallon Griekspoor prediction is a win for Griekspoor.
