A repeat of the first-ever final will mark the Champions Cup return when Stade Toulousain welcome Cardiff Rugby on Saturday. The French side currently sit sixth in the Top 14 while a poor start in the United Rugby Championship leaves Cardiff in 12th. Last time out on the road, Stade Toulousain suffered a 27-12 defeat to Stade Francais. In what would have been their last meeting, Cardiff were awarded a walkover against a Covid-hit Toulousain. The reigning Top 14 champions will thus be out to prove a point here. Toulousain were aggrieved by the decision having won the opening leg 39-7.
Cardiff have had a tough start to the season, winning only two of their seven URC games thus far. The Welsh side’s patchy form was on show in their last outing as they lost 23-29 to Scarlets. It will be tougher for them as they face the five-time Champions Cup champions. An unstable season has Cardiff on one win only in their last five games. The 2018 Challenge Cup champions face a tall order in changing their fortunes when they face the formidable Toulousain.
