An early start to Saturday’s MLB action sees the San Francisco Giant take on the St. Louis Cardinals for the second of a three game series. These two teams met the night prior for game one of the series with the Giants walking away with an 8-2 win. The result improves San Francisco’s record to 20 wins and 12 losses, good for only third-place in the NL West as they reside in one of baseball’s toughest divisions. The Cardinals have been moving in the opposite direction of their opponents today and the loss in the previous game now makes it five losses from the last six. St Louis still sits above .500 despite the losing streak, with a record of 17 wins and 15 losses putting them second behind the Brewers in the NL Central.
The Giants continue to roll and are one of baseball’s hottest teams having now racked up six wins in a row. Right-hander Jakob Junis is expected to take the mound for the visiting Giants while Dakota Hudson gets the nod for the Cards. This is actually a pitching rematch of the May 8th game, in which the Giants were victorious by a score of 4-3. Junis went for five innings in that encounter, giving up two runs and striking out five in a pretty solid performance. Hudson was pulled in the fourth inning after giving up three runs, walking four and not recording any strikeouts. The Giants likely have the slight pitching advantage but it’s their offense that will ultimately win them this game. San Francisco ranks in the top five in runs and on-base percentage while the Cardinals offensive numbers sees them around the middle of the pack.
