St. Louis Cardinals vs Philadelphia Phillies Prediction & Betting Tips - MLB
by Joseph King | in MLB Predictions
The St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies close out their four game series at Busch Stadium in this NL matchup on Monday’s Major League Baseball slate. Both teams will be desperate for the win as they each try to close the gap in their respective divisions. The Cardinals sit second in the NL Central with a 46-42 record and currently trail the first place Brewers by only 2.5 games. The Phillies, on the other hand, have a bit more work to do if they hope to catch the first place Mets in the NL East. Philadelphia has a 46-40 record which sees them sitting third in the division and seven games behind New York. The Phillies took the first two games of this series before a spirited comeback by the Cards in game three, battling back from 3-1 down to ultimately win the game 4-3 with the go-ahead run coming in the bottom of the eighth inning. It was a much needed win for St. Louis, who had previously lost six of their last seven games, while Philadelphia saw their three game winning streak snapped with the loss.
Taking the mound for the Phillies is Aaron Nola, the eighth-year Philly vet who is 5-6 on the year with a 3.15 ERA in 17 starts. The 29-year-old righty has been pitching very well as of late, with five quality starts in his last six outings. His last time on the hill saw him go seven and two thirds innings with three earned runs against the Braves. Overall, in Nola’s last six starts he has given up only 10 innings in 44 total innings of work. For the Cards, Miles Mikolas gets the start and will be hoping to improve on his 5-7 record and 2.72 ERA on the year. Mikolas pitched pretty well in his last outing, going six innings and allowing three earned runs against the Braves in a game that the Cardinals would ultimately lose 3-0. The 33-year-old has been getting hit a bit more than his counterpart today, with Mikolas’ last four starts seeing him give up eight total runs in 23 innings pitched.
