The Ottawa Senators look to respond after a heavy defeat in their last outing when they head to the Enterprise Center to take on the St. Louis Blues. It has not been a good year for the Senators who were expected by many to compete for playoff positioning in the 2022/23 campaign. A heavy 7-0 humiliation at the hands of the defending champion Avalanche on Saturday capped off what was a poor seven days by the Sens which saw them drop three of their four contests which also included an 8-4 defeat to Seattle the weekend prior. They’ll now hope to put a stop to the bleeding as Ottawa has seen its record drop to 19 wins, 20 losses and three overtime defeats, putting them second from bottom in the Atlantic division on just 41 points.
Looking to bounce back from their own losing streak are the St. Louis Blues, who enter this matchup on a two game losing run following their 4-2 home defeat to Tampa Bay on Saturday. St. Louis has now dropped their last two on their home ice but will have a chance to remedy that with the welcome of Ottawa to the Enterprise Center. They are managing to stay just above .500 at the moment with a current record of 21 wins, 20 losses and two overtime losses. The Blues have actually performed worse this season when playing at home, managing just eight wins from 20 outings compared to 13 wins from 24 away trips. St Louis now sits on 45 points, good for fifth in the Central division but sees them trailing the first-place Jets by 14 points.
St. Louis are still dealing with a number of injuries to key players, most notably Torey Krug and Vlad Tarasenko, as the team struggles to stay above water. The Blues have been one of the league’s worst defensive teams with 159 goals conceded ranking them in the bottom six. They've been unable to keep up the scoring pace with their defensive cracks and have now amassed a goal differential of -20, eighth-worst in the NHL.
