Ukraine are bottom of Pool B but could still qualify for the final round of the Men's European Volleyball Championship. They are three points behind opponents Spain who are fourth with the top four going through. Ukraine began these championships with a 3-1 loss to Slovenia after winning the first set. They led 1-0 and 2-1 against Croatia but ended up losing that match too. The inability to keep a lead was shown again in their next match against Bulgaria. The first set was won but the next three lost. They finally got off the mark in this pool with a 3-2 win over Finland. The first two sets were won but they let the Finns back into the match and it went to a final set. This time they held their nerve to win that set 15-13 and keep their qualification hopes alive.

Spain fill the final qualifying place and a win here will take them into the final round. That could even see them finish third as Bulgaria (currently in that position) take on pool leaders Slovenia. Spain began their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Bulgaria but then they lost to Croatia 3-0 and suffered the same fate against Slovenia. They got back into winning ways with a 3-1 win over Finland but only scored 14 points more than their opponents in that match. Both teams need to win this match and it could well be a close one.
