France have already won Group B in the Women's Olympic handball tournament. They end the group with a match against Spain who have no points and have already been eliminated. Can Las Guerreras get a point? Read our prediction.
The French side will face the team that finishes fourth in Group A in the quarter-finals. France are the reigning Olympic and World champions and have so far won all four of their matches in this group. They are certainly looking likely gold medal winners.
Their campaign began with a win over Hungary and then the Netherlands were beaten by a five-goal margin. Another win followed over Brazil and on Thursday, they dominated Angola, winning by a 14-goal margin with 20 goals scored in the second half.
Spain come into this final group match with nothing to play for but their pride. Unlike other Spanish teams this year they have not excelled themselves in Paris. Four games have been played by Las Guerreras and they are still looking for their first point.
Thursday saw them beaten 27-24 by Hungary and that confirmed their exit from this Olympic tournament. It’s a disappointing performance by the country that finished ninth in the Tokyo Olympics three years ago. The writing was on the wall for them when they lost their opening match to Brazil by 11 points. That’s the only match the Brazilians have won in this tournament.
