Third seeds Spain will on Wednesday play the Czech Republic in Group D of the 2023 Davis Cup. Spain will be without world number two Carlos Alcaraz for this phase of the competition. The young forward with Drew from the squad following his US Open semifinal elimination. He has since been replaced by veteran Albert Ramos. Alcaraz's absence is a big blow but Spain still have a strong line-up. Four of the five players in the squad are ranked inside the ATP top 100 in Singles. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina leads the way at world number 25. Roberto Bautista Agut is ranked 42nd, Bernabe Zapata Miralles 75th and Albert Ramos Vinolas 95th. Marcel Granollers has a world ranking of 15th in the Doubles. Spain will be captained by three-time Davis Cup champion David Ferrer. Spain made it to the last eight in last year's tournament.
The Czech Republic beat Spain in the final of the Davis Cup back in 2012 to win the first of back-to-back titles. The three-time champions will hope for the same outcome but their squad now pales in comparison 11 years on. The Czech Republic's current squad consists of only one player in the ATP top 100. This is Jiri Lehecka who is currently ranked 30th in the world. Tomas Machac is the second-best-ranked player in the squad at 119th with Jakub Mensik coming in at number 151. Adam Pavlasek has a number 57 world ranking in the Doubles. Jaroslav Navratil, captained his nation to the title in 2012 and has reprized his role yet again in this year's tournament.
