South Africa will be looking to complete another test series win over the West Indies when the two lock horns for the second and final test set to start at the Wanderers Stadium on Wednesday morning. Under the guidance of the newly appointed test coach, Shukri Conrad, South Africa successfully navigated the first test to win by 87 runs, but they were far from their best by their own admission. After getting off to an excellent start courtesy of a 141 first-wicket partnership between Elgar and Markram, South Africa’s middle order failed to deliver again, managing only 342 all out in their first innings. Their batting fragility was on display again in the second innings, where they were bundled out for just 116 runs. However, thankfully for the hosts, their bowlers were in excellent form in both innings and ultimately won the match for the Proteas, bowling the Windies out for just 159 runs in the second innings.
Despite losing the first match, the West Indies will take lots of positives from that match, particularly in the bowling department, which restricted South Africa to just 116 runs in their second innings. Unfortunately for the visitors, their batting was their major downfall, with three ducks in the top six of their second innings, with only Jermaine Blackwood contributing a score of any significance. With the ODI and T20 series still to come in this tour, the West Indies will be expecting to show improvement with the bat in this one as they prepare for the shorter formats in the coming weeks.
