It's unlikely that either of these two countries are going to make it into the semi-finals of this ICC World Cup. South Africa were outside fancies at the start of this tournament but they have only won one of their six games. They are four points behind fourth place at the time of writing this preview but with India odds-on to beat Afghanistan on Saturday, that gap will become five. With only three games remaining for the South Africans, they are going to need to win all their remaining matches and pray for a miracle. It could have been a different story if they had beaten New Zealand on Wednesday but lost that game by four wickets with three balls to spare. They have shown some signs of improvement in recent games though. Amla is scoring more runs but taking his time doing so, unlike van der Dussen who helped them get to a decent total against New Zealand.

Pakistan also have just the three points but have four games left to play. They have only won one game and there are still people trying to work out just how they beat England. Pakistan lost their last game to India by 89 runs but had little answer to the Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. Pakistan's batsmen got themselves to 117-1 against India but then collapsed to 129-5 wrecking any hopes of beating their great rivals. With only four games remaining, they probably need to win all four to have any chance of progressing. That looks unlikely indeed and the tip is for South Africa to win this match.
