Lorenzo Sonego needed a decider to defeat qualifier Joao Fonseca in the second round. The win enabled him advance to this round for only the second time in seven appearances.

He now seeks to progress to the fourth round for the first time and equal his best-ever finish at a major. The Italian, who has moved up to 50th in the live ranking, has lost at least a set in both of his ties this week.

Fabian Marozsan has equalled his result from last season by advancing to this round. The Hungarian debuted in Melbourne last season and now seeks to make it to the fourth round and set a new major record.

Marozsan has shown resilience this week as he has been forced to play a fifth set in both of his matches. He began his tournament against Thiago Seyboth Wild and then in the previous round battled against 17th seed Frances Tiafoe.
