Australia face Slovenia in Group K of the 2023 FIBA Men's World Basketball Cup. We've now entered the second round stage of the tournament. Points won in the first round have been carried forward and that leaves Australia in third place, a point behind Slovenia and Germany. The top two qualify for the quarter finals so a win for Australia over Slovenia is of paramount importance. Losing will see them unable to qualify for the last eight.  After this match, the Australians still have to play Georgia. Australia finished second behind Germany in Group E, beating Finland and Japan but losing to Germany by three points. They are ranked third in the world which is four places higher than their opponents. They will be hoping for another good haul from Patrick Mills who plays for Atlanta Hawks in the NBA. He top scored for them in both their matches against Finland and Germany. In their final group match against Japan it was Joshua Giddey (who plays for Oklahoma City Thunders) who was in fine form with 26 points scored.

Slovenia finished top of Group F in the first round with three wins out of three. They had wins over Venezuela, Georgia and Cape Verde with all the victories being by at least 15 points. It wasn't the toughest of groups with the next highest ranked country being Venezuela who are in 17th position. Slovenia beat them by 15 points despite losing the first quarter. They also have a high scoring NBA player, namely Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks. He scored 90 points in their three group matches so Australia need to do their best to keep him under control. This is a must-win match for the Australians and we go for them to get a narrow win.
