Top seed Jannik Sinner has never reached a grass court final. The world number one faces unseeded Zhizhen Zhang in the last four of the Halle Open. Up for grabs is a place in the final against either second seed Alexander Zverev or fifth-seeded Hubert Hurkacz. Sinner tops both the overall rankings and the Live ATP Race. He’s shown how good he is on hard courts and clay and is going well on grass this week. Sinner is building on the semi-final he reached at Wimbledon last year. To reach this semi-final, he’s had to go to a final set in each of his three matches. Tallon Griekspoor, Fabian Marozsan and Jan-Lennard Struff with four tie-breaks being played.

This run to the last four of the Halle Open has seen Zhizhen Zhang set a new career-high. The Chinese player is up to 33rd and beating Sinner would see him climb to 30th and most likely seeded at Wimbledon. He hasn’t played that well on grass in the past and had three first round exits at Wimbledon. Last week saw him play the BOSS Open in Stuttgart and he lost his first match there. This is his second time in the main draw of the Halle Open. He lost in the first qualifying round last year but has shown good form this time around. Zhang has had wins over Sebastian Ofner (in three sets with two tie-breaks) and a three-set win over third seed Daniil Medvedev. Friday saw him again have to go to a final set as he beat unseeded Christopher Eubanks. We tip Sinner to win this in straight sets.
