Top seed and world number one Jannik Sinner takes on unseeded Yannick Hanfmann in round one at Wimbledon. For the winner of this match, the second round (last 64) will see them face either former finalist Matteo Berrettini or Marton Fucsovics.

Sinner tops the rankings in both the overall list and the Live ATP Race. He’s won four titles this year and 38 of his 41 matches. He’d never made it to a grass court final until this year.

That all changed when he won the Halle Open in June. At one time he did struggle on grass courts and his first two visits to WImbledon produced a first qualifying loss and then a round one defeat. He’s made big strides in recent years with a last eight appearance and a semi-final last year.

Yannick Hanfmann is down at 110th in the live rankings. He’s never won a main draw match at Wimbledon but this is the third time in four tournaments he’s reached round one of this Grand SLam. Last year saw him take Taylor Fritz to a final set after leading two sets to one.

The German has lost in the first round of his previous four Grand Slams. One of those was the 2023 US Open and it was SInner who beat him. He’s played three grass court tournaments this year, his best result being getting to the last 16 in Stuttgart. He failed to qualify for the Halle Open main draw and his last tournament saw him beaten in his first match by Adam Walton.
