Top seed Jannik Sinner faces the 31st-seeded Tomas Martin Etcheverry in round three of the Shanghai Masters. This is a match in the last 32 of this hard court tournament. Read our match prediction below.

Sinner had won two successive hard court tournaments before being beaten in Beijing earlier this week. The Italian was defeated in the final of that tournament, going down in three sets to Carlos Alcaraz.

He's had to play one match so far in Shanghai so far and had few problems when beating Taro Daniel. The world number one won that match in straight sets with only four games being lost by SInner.

This is his second match against Etcheverry. The other was in last year's Australian Open and played over the best of five sets rather than the three being played here. Sinner won that match in straight sets with only seven games being dropped.

Tomas Martin Etcheverry is 35th in the live rankings after reaching the third round in Shanghai. Like his opponent, he received a bye into the second round and then beat unseeded Botic van de Zandschulp in three sets, losing the middle one.

That was a welcome win for the Argentinian who lost in the first round in Tokyo in his last tournament. His best form this year has come on clay and only twice in 2024 has he won two successive hard court matches in an ATP Tour event. Both times he did that were in Grand Slam events though.
