Top seed Jannik Sinner has his toughest match to date in this year's Shanghai Masters. He faces the fifth seed Daniil Medvedev in the quarter-finals of this hard court tournament. Read our match prediction below.

Sinner is clear at the top of both the overall rankings and ATP Live Race. The Italian has won six titles this year and that includes two hard court Grand Slam titles in Melbourne and New York. He'd won two titles in a row on this surface before losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the Beijing final.

The 23-year-old has won three matches to reach this stage in Shanghai. Wins have come against Taro Daniel, Tomas Martin Etcheverry (in three sets) and Ben Shelton. The latter two have had over 20.5 games played with a couple of sets going to tie-breaks.

There have been 13 previous matches played between Sinner and Medvedev and the Russian leads 7-6. Sinner has won three of the four they have played in 2024, all on hard courts. The only win for Medvedev was on grass at Wimbledon.

Daniil Medvedev is fifth in the live rankings but a place higher in the ATP Race. He should have few problems making it into the end-of-season Tour Finals despite the fact he is yet to win a title this year.

The 28-year-old is in his third successive ATP Tour hard court quarter-final. His most recent tournament saw him lose to Carlos Alcaraz in Beijing. He's been in good form in Shanghai with victories over Thiago Seyboth Wild, Matteo Arnaldi and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Medvedev had to come from behind to beat Arnaldi and so far in this tournament has played three 7-5 sets and one tie-break.
