Third seed Daniil Medvedev and fourth seed Jannik Sinner will rekindle their rivalry with Saturday’s ATP Finals mouthwatering showdown. The two will battle in the semifinals with the winner taking on either Novak Djokovic or Carlos Alcaraz in the final. Jannik Sinner is flying high. The Italian is on a nine-match winning run. All nine victories have come on indoor hard courts, a surface he has lost only once in 17 outings. Sinner finished top in the Green Group in the round-robin stage ahead of defending champion Novak Djokovic. He defeated the world number one on day two in three sets and subsequently ended the Serb's 19-match winning streak. In his last match, he battled through three sets again to defeat Holger Rune. Sinner has won the last two meetings with Medvedev which were all played last month. He defeated Medvedev in the final in Vienna in their last encounter.

Daniil Medvedev had won six straight matches against Sinner before the Italian’s latest run in this series. Five of his wins had come on indoor hard courts with one coming in the round-robin stage of the 2021 ATP Finals. The Russian, who is a one-time ATP year-end champion, would go on to make the final that year. Medvedev qualified for the knockout rounds after finishing second in Red Group behind Carlos Alcaraz. He has won his opening two fixtures before losing 2-0 to Alcaraz in his last match. Medvedev, who has never lost a semifinal in this event, has won the most number of matches in 2023 with 66. Eleven of his wins have come in 13 outings on indoor hard courts. The 27-year-old defeated Sinner in the final in Rotterdam to hand the Italian his only defeat thus far on indoor hard courts.
