Top seed Jannik Sinner will meet 21st seed Ben Shelton in the semi-finals of the Australian Open. The winner of their sixth career matchup will take on Novak Djokovic or Alexander Zverev in the championship match. Below is our prediction for this tie.

Sinner is two wins away from retaining the title he won here a year ago. The Italian has been in excellent form in his title defence, losing just two sets in his five fixtures.

He made light work of eighth seed Alex de Minaur in the quarter-finals, winning in straight sets with just six games relinquished. The world number one has won 12 straight matches in this event and is also on a 22-match winning streak.

Sinner last suffered a defeat in October.

Ben Shelton has qualified for the semi-finals of a major for the second time. The American, who made his Grand Slam debut three years ago, is now seeking to qualify for his first-ever final.

Shelton battled through four sets to win his quarter-final tie with Lorenzo Sonego. He has dropped a set in his last four matches. The 22-year-old has won five of the six matches he has contested this season thus far.

This has seen him move back into the ATP top 20. Shelton, who has managed one win in five meetings with Sinner, is now placed 14th in the live ranking.
