Simona Halep vs Amanda Anisimova Prediction & Betting Tips - WTA Wimbledon Championships
by Steve Ashfield | in Tennis Predictions
Simona Halep is the highest remaining seed in the top half of the draw. That's despite the former Wimbledon champion only being the 16th seed. Simona takes on the 20th seed Amanda Anisimova for a place in the last four against either Ajla Tomljanovic or 17th seeded Elena Rybakina. Halep won the title here in 2019 and is the only player left in the women's draw to have won a Grand Slam title. This is her first time back at Wimbledon since becoming champion, so not since 2018 has Halep lost a singles match at Wimbledon. Her ranking has slipped in recent years due to injury and some poor results compared to previous years. One tournament has been won this year, that was the Melbourne event in January. Since then, the Romanian has reached four semi-finals including her last two, both played on grass. Halep has still only won two grass court titles though and one of those was nine years ago. The Romanian has been in top form in this tournament, especially when beating Paula Badosa in the last round. Only three games were lost against the fourth seed and no sets have been dropped by Halep so far this Wimbledon.
This is the fourth match between this pair. Animisova won their first meeting which was on clay three years ago in the French Open quarter final. The two matches played since then were both won by Halep with only four games lost. That includes a recent meeting on grass when Anisimova only won three games. The American is in only her second Grand Slam quarter final with none reached since that clash with Halep three years ago. Previous visits to Wimbledon haven't gone well with only one match won in two visits. While Halep won one of the two pre-Australian Open tournaments held in Melbourne, it was Anisimova who won the other. Since then, her best run has been reaching the semi-final in the Charleston clay court tournament. The American has only lost one set on her way to this quarter final. That was in the second round when having to come from a set down to beat unseeded Lauren Davis. One seed has been beaten by her so far, Coco Gauff being defeated in the third round. Back Halep to get the win here and she is the player to beat in this tournament.
