Just as happened at Wimbledon, none of the top ten seeds in the women's draw have made it through to the semi-finals. Serene Williams is 17th seed for this tournament and her US Open semi-final opponent is Anastasija Sevastova who knocked out defending champion Sloane Stephens in the last eight. Williams has only dropped one set on her way to this semi-final, that came in the fourth round against unseeded Kaia Kanepi,  Her quarter final win in straight sets over Karolina Pliskova means she's reached the last four of the last nine US Opens she has taken part in, though her last US Open title came four years ago. She's the highest seed left in the tournament and must be fancying her chances of winning what would be her 40th Grand Slam singles and doubles title.

Looking to prevent that statistic becoming fact is 19th seed Anastasija Sevastova who must love this tournament. She hasn't made it past the third round of any other Grand Slam but made the quarter final of the US Open in 2016 and 2017 and now she's in her first ever Grand Slam semi-final. Her tournament didn't get off to the best of starts though as she went a set down in the first round to Donna Vekic.  So far in this tournament she's beaten two of the top ten seeds disposing of Elina Svitolina (seeded seventh) in the fourth round and then beating the third seed and defending champion Sloane Stephens in the last eight. This is the first meeting between the pair and both players have momentum going into this semi-final. Go for Serena to get the win in a match that has over 19.5 games played.
