Serbia got their 2023 Men's European Volleyball Championships off to a winning start earlier this week. They beat Switzerland in straight sets and sit second in Pool A behind Italy. Now they take on Belgium who are in bottom place in the pool. Serbia are the second favorites behind the Italians in this pool and should have little difficulty in ensuring they qualify for the final round. They are ninth in the latest world rankings and that is 15 places ahead of their opponents in this second pool match. Serbia are bidding to win this European title for the fourth time in their history. Their last title triumph was four years ago but when defending their title in 2021, they lost out in the last four. They are in good form at present and the win over Switzerland made it three wins in a row.

Belgium have it all to do if they want to finish in the top four and qualify for the final round. Their campaign began with a straight sets loss to Italy who are ranked third in the world. Belgium didn't have much chance of beating them and it's the same here as they face Serbia. They'll have to do well in their remaining matches against Germany, Estonia and Switzerland if hoping to get a top four finish. They lost in the Preliminary Round in the last European Championships, finishing an overall 18th. The Belgians have lost four of their last five matches, the only win being against the Netherlands.
