Serbia will play Australia in the quarter-finals of the Women’s Basketball tournament at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The winner will play Nigeria or the United States for a place in the final. Heading into their fifth competitive meeting, here’s our prediction for the match.

Serbia lost their final group match to Spain 70-62 and thus finished second in Group A. Marina Maljkovic’s players, who have struggled on the offensive end, had begun their Paris campaign with back-to-back wins. They beat Puerto Rico 58-55 then followed it up with an 81-59 victory over China.

The White Eagles have won twice against Australia. One of their wins was achieved at the 2016 Rio Olympics, in the quarter-finals on their way to claim bronze. The Eastern Europeans have always achieved a podium finish. They’ll hope to do better than settling for silver as was the case in Tokyo. Serbia are averaging 67 points per game in Paris and are shooting 38.5% from the field.

Australia won the last two times they have faced off with Serbia. Their most recent victory was achieved in February in qualifying for Paris. Sandy Brondello’s players will therefore arrive for this match confident of a win.

Australia have grown from strength to strength since their disappointing matchday one loss to Nigeria. They won back-to-back games putting up at least 70 points in each. In their final group match, the Opals defeated hosts France 79-72 to confirm second spot in Group B.

Australia are averaging 47.7% from the field and 37.3% from three-point range. Both averages have them second in both categories at the Summer Games. The Oceania representatives are three-time silver medalists but in their last two appearances at the Olympics, they lost in the quarter-finals.
