Sebastian Ofner and Emil Ruusuvuori, both unseeded, will battle each other for a place in the final of the Hong Kong Tennis Open. The winner of this first semifinal will square off with either Andrey Rublev, Arthur Fils, Frances Tiafoe, or Juncheng Shang in the final. Sebastian Ofner earned his second straight-sets victory of the tournament when he defeated Roberto Bautista Agut last time out. He won by the loss of eight games and is now through to only his second tour semifinal in the last year. Ofner is a decent performer on hard courts and has so far in his career compiled a 92-56 record on the surface. He is currently ranked 43rd in the ATP.

Emil Ruusuvuori managed only one tour semifinal appearance in a difficult campaign last year. Making the last four in his first tournament of the year should boost his confidence levels. He also is coming off a straight sets win in his last match. The Fin, who required a decider in each of his opening two matches, defeated Pavel Kotov by the loss of nine games. He is now on the verge of only his second career tour final. Ruusuvuori, who has compiled a 114-56 record on hard courts in his career, is ranked 26 places behind Ofner in the ATP.
