Fourth seed Sebastian Korda will meet seventh seed Jordan Thompson in the Washington Open quarter-finals. This will be their first career meeting with the winner battling Andrey Rublev or Frances Tiafoe in the semis. Find here stats on this match as well as our prediction.

Korda has returned to Washington for the fourth time and has equalled his best record there. To advance against the last eight, he defeated Thanasi Kokkinakis in three sets. He lost the first set by way of a tiebreaker but won the second set to force a decider.

In the third set, Kokkinakis was forced to retire with injury and Korda secured his 24th win of the season. The American now has 10 of his wins in 16 outings on hardcourts. This year, he has managed a runner-up finish in Hertogenbosch and two semi-final runs in Adelaide and London. The 24-year-old has moved to 21st in the live ranking.

Jordan Thompson has lost three times in quarter-finals this season. All those losses have, coincidentally, been in events held in America. He was defeated in the last eight in Dallas, Houston and at the Delray Beach Open.

On the flip side, one of his two final appearances was in the US – in Atlanta in July. He will hope for a similar run in DC where he is making his seventh appearance. Thompson is yet to lose a set in Washington.

He defeated the wildcard Rilley Opelka in the second round and then saw off Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard last time out. The Australian has a 25-17 record and has claimed 16 of his wins on hard courts. The highlight of his season came in Los Cabos where he won his maiden tour crown. Thompson has moved to 30th in the live ranking, a career-high placing.
