Fifth seed Sebastian Baez will take on the unseeded Sumit Nagal to begin his Rio Open title defence. They will battle in the first round with the winner squaring off with Mariano Navone or Roberto Carballes Baena next. Below is our prediction for this match.

Sebastian Baez is defending the title plus the 500 points he won in this event last season. He arrives having had a shaky start to the season.

The Argentine has compiled a 4-4 record with all four of his wins coming on clay. Baez, who is coming off a second-round exit in Buenos Aires, will start a new week ranked 31st in the ATP.

The 24-year-old defeated Nagal in straight sets on clay in Geneva last season. 

Sumit Nagal is having a slow start to the season. He has lost six times in 10 outings with half of those losses coming on clay. The 27-year-old, who is coming off a first-round exit in Buenos Aires, has lost his last two matches. 

Yet to win a main draw tie at a tour event this season, Nagal has dropped to 130th in the live ranking. Nagal is a strong clay player and has registered close to 230 victories on clay in his career.
