Sebastian Baez vs Federico Coria Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Cordoba
by Daniel Ngulu in Tennis Predictions
After four rounds of high-octane tennis and 26 matches, we are at the final stage of the 2023 Cordoba Open. Fourth seed Sebastian Baez will face off with sixth seed Federico Coria in the all-Argentine affair on Monday. It is the first appearance in the final for both players as well as their first match against each other. In the semis, Baez needed just one hour and 29 minutes to defeat the qualifier Hugo Dellien in straight sets. The Argentine number three has won two of his three matches in Cordoba by straight sets and was taken the distance by wildcard Tomas Vera in the second round. The match with Coria will be the first he will be going up against a seeded player in the tournament. Baez started his season in Pune India and was eliminated in his first match. It was the same scenario in Auckland and at the Australian Open where he exited both competitions early with straight-set losses. Currently ranked 47th in the world, Baez’s progress to the final in Cordoba has seen him move up to 36th on the live ranking which is five places below his career-high placing of 31st. This is his fourth ATP final, all of which have been on clay, and he will be hoping he makes it two wins in four to add to his success at the Estoril Open in 2022.
Unlike Baez, Federico Coria’s path to the final has seen him face the challenge of two top-three-seeded players. He has had some luck along the way with two of his four matches having opponents retire due to injury. He defeated third seed and defending champion Albert Vinolas in straight sets to reach the final. It took the 30-year-old two hours and 32 minutes to do so. In the quarterfinals, he went up against second seed Francisco Cerundolo. He won the first set 6-3 before the match ended prematurely with Coria up 3-0 in the second set. His second-round match with Marco Cecchinato had also seen the same fate. Coria made the semifinals here in 2021 and lost to eventual champion Juan Manuel Cerundolo. He has already tasted title success this season by winning the Challenger in Concepcion. That victory as well as making the final in Cordoba have catapulted him 18 places to 49th in the live ranking which is a new career high. A win over Coria can move him into the world’s top 40. He is also up to 21st place in the live race ranking, making him the most in-form Argentine thus far in the season.

Our Sebastian Baez vs Federico Coria Prediction
Federico Coria is in better form than Sebastian Baez in 2023 and has already had title success in the year. Baez is playing in his fourth final in the space of a year and will be a tough nut to crack despite being 1-2 in ATP finals. Coria has had luck along the way which has allowed him considerably fewer minutes on the court than Baez and this could work in his favour. Our prediction for Sebastian Baez v Federico Coria however is a 2-1 win for Coria.
