Fifth seed Sebastian Baez will face off next with lucky loser Camilo Ugo Carabelli as he continues with his Rio Open title defence. They will battle in the semi-finals with the winner taking on Francisco Comesana or Alexandre Muller for the title. Below is our prediction for this match.

Sebastian Baez defeated Carabelli in straight sets less than a week ago when they squared off on home soil in Buenos Aires. This was his fourth successive victory against his fellow countryman.

He will therefore be confident about moving on to the final and getting one step closer to retaining his crown. Baez defeated the qualifier Chun-hsin Tseng in the quarter-finals without losing a set.

This was his second 2-0 success this week. Baez is currently ranked 44th in the live ranking.

Camilo Ugo Carabelli has grabbed the second chance accorded to him to continue playing in Rio with both hands. The Argentine had been eliminated in the qualifying rounds, but here he is, having his best-ever tour performance.

Carabelli, who is playing in his maiden tour semi, had never won more than one main draw match at a tour event before Rio. To progress to the last four, Carabelli defeated fellow lucky loser Jaime Faria in straight sets.

He has now won 11 of 15 matches, propelling him a massive 22 places to 69th in the live ranking.
