Sebastian Baez, the sixth seed at this year’s Argentina Open, will face off with compatriot Camilo Ugo Carabelli in the first round. The winner will play Facundo Diaz Acosta or Thiago Seyboth Wild for a place in the quarter-finals. Below is our prediction for this match.

Sebastian Baez has returned to Buenos Aires for the first successive year. The Argentine first competed in this event in the qualifying rounds in 2021.

Last year, he produced his best result after making it to the quarter-finals. Baez, a clay court specialist, has had a slow start to the season. He has compiled a shaky 3-3 record.

However, all three of his wins have come on clay. Currently placed 32nd in the live ranking Baez has a 3-2 advantage in this matchup with Carabelli.

Though competing outside of the tour, Camilo Carabelli has looked better this season than Baez. He has won seven of nine matches and is coming off a title victory at the Rosario Challenger.

The 25-year-old is also a clay court specialist and has registered all seven of his victories on clay. Despite winning his last five matches, Carabelli has dropped one place in the live ranking to 88th.

The Argentine is back in Buenos Aires for the fourth successive season hoping to make it past the second round.
