Tuesday night in Major League Baseball sees an AL West matchup when the third-place Seattle Mariners host the second-place Houston Astros. It’s a tight race for the division crown between the Rangers, Astros and Mariners as we head into the final few games of the regular season. The Rangers currently hold a 2.5 game lead over the Astros and a four game lead over the Mariners. There are huge playoff implications on the line with this series as Seattle and Houston are in direct competition for the final Wild Card spot. The Astros hold a slim 1.5 game lead over Seattle for the last playoff spot but still have two games in this series. Houston won game one by a score of 5-1, snapping a three game losing streak in what was a vital victory. They’ll send out Cristian Javier to the mound for the second game of this series. Javier is 9-4 on the season but has an ERA of 4.64. 

This is arguably a ‘must-win’ spot for the Mariners as they could overtake the Astros for the final playoff spot by winning the final two games of this series. It hasn’t been a good run for Seattle in the last few weeks as seven losses from their last 10 has put their postseason hopes at risk. The Mariners come into this game two on a four game losing streak after being swept by the Rangers and losing the first game to Houston. However, they can still certainly turn things around. Seattle have been strong at T-Mobile Park this season with 41 wins from their 75 outings. George Kirby gets the start for the hosts and is 11-10 on the season with a 3.58 ERA. The 25-year-old righty went seven innings in his last outing, giving up three earned runs in a 6-3 win over Oakland.
