Seattle Kraken vs Vegas Golden Knights Prediction & Betting Tips - NHL

The Winter Classic comes from Seattle on New Year's Day where the 14-14-9 Kraken will host the 22-10-5 Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Park, the home of the Seattle Mariners MLB franchise. The Kraken made the playoffs last season off the back of some exciting attacking play, finishing the season with the 6th most goals in the league. That included a smart first full season for Matty Beniers who notched 57 points in 80 games at a rate of 0.71 points per game. So far this season, he only has 18 in 37, so less than 0.5, which is a fair step backwards. He has five points in his last five games, however, so perhaps he is starting to find his stride. They have conceded just five goals in their last four games, all wins, so they are heading in the right direction after an eight-game losing streak at the end of November and into December. Vince Dunn leads the team in scoring with 30 points, a solid amount at this stage of the season for a blue-liner. The Kraken do not have a captain but Dunn is as close as they have and he has done a solid job this season.
One small advantage that the Golden Knights have is that they have already played in an outdoor game, something the Kraken have yet to do. The Knights lost to the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 at Lake Tahoe in February 2021. That was one of the most memorable games but for all the wrong reasons with a lengthy delay due to the sun meaning that the game was not finished until the early hours of the morning. Ben Hutton will play his 500th career game here and what a time to be doing it in the Winter Classic. He is also two assists shy of 100 and while he has never been a huge point-getter in his career, he has a couple within the last four games. The Knights beat the Los Angeles Kings when last in action but they had lost four straight and five of their last six heading into that contest. Two of those defeats came at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres and Anaheim Ducks who are in the bottom six in the NHL in points so they are not at their very best right now.
