Scotland vs Portugal Prediction & Betting Tips - Test Matchs

Scotland face Portugal in a Rugby Union test match for only the third time in their history. The other two matches were both won comfortably by Scotland and a similar result is expected this weekend when the two teams meet at Murrayfield. The Portuguese side will be a lot easier opponents than Scotland faced last weekend when they were beaten at home by the current world champions South Africa who scored four tries against them.
This is a massive occasion for Portugal who have never previously played in the Autumn Nations series. They also lost their most recent match as they suffered a narrow loss to the USA. The current world rankings have them in 13th position which is the highest position that they have ever managed to achieve. A win at Murrayfield would be one of the best wins that the Wolves have managed to record. Read our match prediction below.

Scotland - Portugal: Form Analysis
Scotland are ranked seventh in the world and that's six places higher than their opponents. Their most recent test match saw them take on the world champions South Africa at Murrayfield and they were beaten 32-15. That ended a run of five successive victories for the Scottish side.
Those wins had been achieved against Canada, the USA, Chile, Uruguay and at home to Fiji. They scored 255 points in those five wins, including 57 in their recent victory over Fiji. That followed a disappointing campaign in the Six Nations earlier this year. They were able to beat Wales and England but lost to Ireland, France and Italy.
Tough task ahead for Portugal this weekend.
Portugal come into this match on the back of two successive defeats. They were beaten 64-21 by South Africa in July and then lost at home by four points to the USA last weekend. This year saw them reach the final of the European Rugby Championship being beaten by Georgia.
The 2023 Rugby World Cup saw them qualify for the finals but finish fourth in Pool C. They finished above Georgia (who they drew with) and achieved a memorable victory over Fiji.

Scotland & Portugal Squad Analysis
It will be a very different Scottish side that faces Portugal on Saturday. They have made 14 changes to the squad that was beaten by South Africa last weekend. That's totally understandable considering the level of the opponents for this test match compared to taking on the world champions.
Their captain for this match will be Stafford McDowall. He last filled that role for Scotland back in July when they played Canada. Darcy Graham returns to the side after missing last weekend's match. He sustained a concussion in the recent win over Fiji. Arron Reed comes into the team at 11.
Portugal will be missing some key players.
The visitors have some key players missing this weekend. Portugal will be without their flyhalf Joris Moura who has club commitments this weekend. Also missing from the Portuguese team are outside backs Vincent Pinto and Rodrigo Marta. Anthony Alves and Francisco Fernandes will also be absent.

Scotland play their penultimate match before the 2025 Six Nations tournament begins in January. After this match they take on Australia but first they face lesser opposition. Portugal have lost both of their previous matches against the Scottish side by a wide margain. The Wolves have shown some improvement in recent years and avoiding defeat in two of their matches in last year's Rugby World Cup was a prime example of their progress.
